The Casting Process

Meeting the caster

Locate a consultant in your area and make an appointment to meet with them to “take the impression” and decide on how your casting will be presented. Consultations are usually undertaken in the home and/or office of the consultant closest to you. Visits to homes, hospitals, vet clinics, hospices etc. are at the discretion of your local consultant so please discuss this with them. A call out fee and other conditions may apply.
Our consultants are fully trained in our product, are friendly and interested in helping you design the casting of your choice. They are creative, artistic and love what they do.

The process of casting

Creating a mould/impression of someone’s hand or foot takes around 40 seconds each. The materials we use are 100% natural and hypoallergenic. The process does not hurt nor is it unpleasant. Most of the appointment is in fact taken up with deciding how you want the finished product to be presented.
The completed art work will be ready for collection in about 6 weeks, so please make sure you contact a consultant as soon as possible in order for your piece to be finished in time if it is for a special occasion.
We use a high quality compound to ensure every detail of the hand/foot is replicated and shown in the casting.

Presentation

Our castings are presented in a frame that can be hung in pride of place in your home. The backing mats we use in the frames are acid free and professionally cut using a computerised mat cutter to ensure perfection.
All of our frames are custom made to suit the design, layout and size of your castings. They are not pre-made and we have an extensive range of frame options, mat and box colours, and plaque options to choose from.
We try our best to ensure that all of our frames and mat board colours remain in our range, so that repeat customers are able to match new castings with their existing frames. We also frequently add to our range in order to keep up with new trends in colour and style.
The Momentoes logo and contact details are located on the back of your frame for easy reference and so as not to intrude on the presentation of your casting.
We use D-rings to attach the hanging string to the back of our castings, this ensures it will hang safely on the wall. We do not reduce the strength of the frame by using staples to attach the string.
The back of our frames are taped with professional framers’ tape to ensure durability and to keep dust, bugs and moisture from entering inside the frame.
